Kevin Honsberger. Kevin graduated with degrees in Physical and Health Education, qualified as a teacher and received his Bachelor of Science - Physiotherapy in 1982 from U of T. He has worked primarily in the sports medicine field with Dr. Ron Taylor at the Mt. Sinai Sports Injury Clinic and at the Fitness Institute where he was instrumental in reviving the Olympic High Performance Center. Kevin’s focus has been on the biomechanical nature of injuries and how to treat them. He also has a special interest in the role of orthotics and injury management and the assessment and treatment of low back and pelvic injuries.
Margaret Honsberger. Margaret graduated with a degree in physiotherapy from the University of Toronto in 1982. With the experience she has gained in working in a variety of hospital, sports and clinical settings, she has developed a great interest in spinal and biomechanically based injuries. Margaret’s experience has been instrumental in developing the Clinic’s approach of developing a team concept between the therapist and the patient in order that treatment, strengthening, conditioning and education combine together in the successful resolution of current and the prevention of future injuries.
Efan Gonsalves. Efan is the Clinical Director of the Markham clinic and company General Manager. Efan has 15 years of experience in the fields of orthopaedics and sports medicine. He is a registered Physiotherapist with a degree from McMaster University and also a certified Athletic Therapist. Efan has worked with all levels of clients, including professional baseball players, and elite figure skaters and track athletes. He is currently working on continuing education in the area of advanced manual therapy techniques and has completed level 5 and has obtained his Intermediate Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Therapy. Current areas of focus include children's issues, concussion management, soccer and performance vision training.
Cindy Salopek. Cindy is a Registered Physiotherapist. She holds a professional degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor degree in biology from the Univerity of Guelph. She has over 13 years of experience in orthopaedics and sports medicine (including recreational, varsity and elite athletes). Cindy is a member of the paramedical staff for the Canadian Freestyle Ski Team. Her interest in the model of Biomechanical Balance has lead to further study of the body’s controlling systems, including visceral manipulation, cranial sacral therapy and orthotic management.
Brent Andrews. Brent is the Assistant Director of our Sport Sciences International division. He is a certified athletic trainer and was the assistant athletic trainer with the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club from 1989-1997. He brings this experience, as well as an extensive background in biomechanics, gait analysis, performance and sport specific training to provide our clients with a multi-functional approach to biomechanical evaluation, injury management, rehabilitation and sports training. Brent is certified CSIA ski instructor, CSCF ski coach, as well as a level 2 NCCP coach in baseball and hockey.
Christina Cellucci. Christina holds a professional degree in Physiotherapy and an honours degree in Zoology from the University of Western Ontario. Christina has a strong interest in supporting the community and pursuing her interest in tennis and racquet related injuries. A strong area of focus are jaw related injuries (TMJ). She is currently working towards attaining her advanced manual therapy courses through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Christina is currently on maternity leave.
Sandra Manherz. Sandra holds a professional degree in Physiotherapy and a Bachelor degree in physical and Health Education from the University of Toronto. Sandra holds experience in both hospital and clinic settings which has allowed her to treat the full spectrum of acute to chronic injuries. She has a focused interest in orthopaedics, sports injuries, and manual therapy, and is also committed to continuing education, and professional and client advocacy. Sandra is currently on maternity leave.
Karen Goodyear. Karen holds a professional degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto and a Kinesiology degree from McMaster University. She is certified in acupuncture through the Canadian Medical Acupuncture program from McMaster University. Her experience lies in an orthopaedic multidiscplinary setting whre she has practiced for the past 11 years. Karen combines manual therapy, exercise prescription and acupuncture into her treatments.
Nora DeGraaff. Nora holds a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta, and an honours degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. She has post graduate courses in manual therapy, acupuncture, and has attained level C from the McKenzie Institute. She has unique understanding of post traumatic and surgical rehabilitation from her own personal experience. Nora has been dancing since the age of three and although she no longer performs or competes, she still enjoys taking new classes. Among other areas, she enjoys treating dance injuries and post-mastectomy rehab.
Jesse Awenus. Jesse holds a Specialized Honours degree in Kinesiology from York University and a Masters of Sciences degree in Physical Therapy from Queens University. Jesse has a strong interest in basketball related injuries in particular stemming from his time as a varsity Basketball player including playing on the 2004 silver medal winning Pan American Maccabi basketball team. Jenny Zeagman. Jenny graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Degree in Kinesiology and then went on to complete her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from McMaster University. Jenny has taken many post graduate courses including; Soft Tissue Release, Manual Therapy Level 1 and an Introductory Course to Acupuncture. Jenny has a strong interest in soccer and running and enjoys coaching in her spare time.
Kate Button. Kate completed her education at Queen’s University, obtaining a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Physical Health and Education followed by a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Her sport background includes alpine skiing and after obtaining her Masters degree she worked with the Alpine Ontario team as a coach and therapist. Kate also has a strong interest in endurance sports as she currently competes in local and international triathlon and mountain bike events.
Jason Varghese. Jason is a Certified Athletic Therapist and Kinesiologist and graduated from York University in 1998. Jason has several years experience in the athletic, clinical, and hospital-based community. Jason is the director of our Industrial Rehabilitation (including Functional Ability Evaluations and Ergonomics). Jason was previously an assistant Athletic Therapist with the Canadian mens Field Hockey team.
Gordon McFarlane. Gordon is a Registered Massage Therapist from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and a Kinesiology graduate of Laurentian University. He holds a variety of coaching certificates including a CSCF level 2, CSIA level 2, NCCP level 3 in skiing and mountain biking. Gordon is very active in alpine skiing, adventure racing, a senior elite mountain bike racer.
Becky Sarjeant. Becky started her post-secondary study in Exercise Science, a Bachelor degree at Arkansas State University. There she received a four-year Athletic Scholarship for Golf. She went onto Sports Injury Management and has been a certified Athletic therapist for the past three years. Over this last year she decided to broaden and round her clinical skills to include massage therapy. In addition to clinical care as a Certified Athletic Therapist and Registered Massage Therapist she will run and develop the back and shoulder classes, run the 3-D kinematic video program and provide event coverage.
Amber Johnston. Amber is a Registered Massage Therapist from The Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy. She also holds an honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph. Amber’s educational background combined with her many years as a hockey player provide a unique insight to injury prevention and care at Honsberger Physiotherapy. She is able to analyze the individual from a clinical perspective but also able to relate from an athletic point of view.
Karen Theimer. Karen graduated from the Sutherland Chan Massage Therapy school. She has worked in multiple clinics in York Region focusing on Soft tissue release, chronic pelvic pain, myofascial release and craniosacral therapy. In addition she has a strong interest in treating horse riders and their dysfucntions based on her own personal riding background.
