Prevention Programs

Baseball

Honsberger Physiotherapy is pleased to offer full off-season conditioning programs in Baseball

Sport Sciences International, a division of Honsberger Physiotherapy, provides state-of –the-art sport specific assessments and conditioning programs for baseball players ages 12 and up. SSI’s baseball programs will continue to provide elite training and preventative care to players throughout the GTA. All SSI baseball programs are under the direction of Brent Andrews, a certified athletic trainer and the former assistant athletic trainer of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Winter Program will run for 20 weeks (December – April). Prior to the start of the training sessions each player will undergo an extensive physical evaluation, incorporating structural and biomechanical assessments and a sport specific fitness test. The structural evaluation is an excellent tool to determine temporary or permanent abnormalities that are a potential cause for injuries. The biomechanical assessment is the best approach for determining performance-limiting factors.

Baseball-specific fitness testing will provide data to be used in the custom design of each individual’s personal conditioning program. Each program is custom designed according to the player’s age, growth and development and physical readiness for each conditioning component. The fitness assessment will include tests for body composition, power, speed, agility and quickness (SAQ), strength (upper body, lower body and core), anaerobic and aerobic capacity.

Sport specific training will enhance athletic performance and speed the athlete’s development. All training is overseen by our certified athletic therapists and kinesiologists.

Injuries in baseball are far too common and often dealt with far too late to prevent long term problems for the athlete. Many problems arise from improper training techniques, lack of knowledge and correctible biomechanical or structural faults. The most unfortunate part is that while many of these injuries are preventable and often have simple solutions they go undetected until they are no longer reversible.

We welcome your participation in our Winter Program.
