Concussion & Vision Training

Honsberger Physiotherapy

 Neurocognitive Training Centre

Concussion Management & Vision Performance

Honsberger Physiotherapy and Sport Sciences International is pleased to announce that we have teamed up with Dynavision Sports , Vizual Edge, Fitlight and Play Attention to open a new sports vision training center in Markham. Leaders in sport vision testing and training, Dynavision and Vizual Edge have established themselves in many high ranking NCAA programs, professional teams and the military services. Sport Sciences  International will incorporate two Dynavision training tools in it’s new center “D2 Reactive Training” and “I-Span Dynamic Training”. Both of these training tools uses sport specific movements to help  improve their explosive reaction time as well as visual response time. Play Attention combines tested teaching methods and proven technology to improve attention, increase time-on-task, and improve memory.

Honsberger Physiotherapy has acquired leading edge equipment and software to address neurocognitive issues related to concussion recovery, attention challenges, vision development and athletic performance enhancement. “This new initiative brings sports medicine to the brain” reports HPBC president Kevin Honsberger. Visit our site for further information and  clinical updates on the impact of our program.

HPBC now has the Neurotracker by CogniSens to add to our Vision Training and Concussion Programs. Press Release

Vision Training and Driving by Jim Kenzie.  Toronto Star Feb 26, 2015

One of the most impressive presentations I ever attended was many years ago. Now, my memory is terrific, in that if I remember anything at all it feels like yesterday. But it must have been early ’90s.

It was the Sports Vision clinic at the University of Waterloo.

Our contact then was Dr. John Peroff, a North Bay-based optometrist who counted my brother and his family among his patients. They were studying how quickly athletes react to visual stimuli.

It was early days for this field, and to that point they had never looked at race car drivers. Our racing drivers club was invited to get checked out.

D2 is designed to analyse an athletes visual performance by evaluating their visual selection decisions by combining an athletes reaction time, economy of motion, performance under pressure and movement under increased stress levels.

      D2™ will help athletes with:

The list of MLB teams using the Dynavision D2™ during spring training increases each year now including Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros, and Chicago Cubs. These teams are discovering what The University of Cincinnati's baseball team discovered a few years ago. A vision training program can increase batting averages.

"Vision training can combine traditional and technological methodologies to train the athletes’ eyes and improve batting. Vision training as part of conditioning or injury prevention can be applied and may improve batting performance in college baseball players."

The FitLight Trainer™ provides Athletes with an objective system to better improve and develop the following attributes through Real Time Data Feedback.

  • Physical Fitness, Power Conditioning and Stamina
  • Speed and Agility
  • Sport Specific Training
  • Multi – Directional Change and Transition
  • Concentration/Better Decision Making
  • Hand/Eye/Foot/Body/Brain Co-ordination
  • Visual Cognitive Processing
  • Reaction Response/Time
  • Peripheral Awareness
  • Visual Processing and Tracking

I-Span was developed as a diagnostic tool to help improve both an athletes acceleration and reaction. The system is designed so that trainers and therapists can continually monitor an athletes results and provide instant feedback for continuous improvement. Explosive Reaction Training

I-Span™ will help athletes with:

  • Develops explosive reaction responses
  • Improves visual response times
  • Teaches motor reactive responses
  • Amazing physical and cardio work out
  • Improves hand eye coordination
  • Effectiveness and motivation in training
  • Proprioception training: The missing link

Vizual Edge is a computer-based training program developed by Dr. Barry Seiller, an opthalmologist and founder of the Visual Fitness Institute. It complements DynaVision training by measuring and improving eye muscle strength and balance.  Vizual Edge is a 3-D visual performance assessment and enhancement tool that improves your timing, visual perception, decision-making and your overall visual system. VEPT evaluates, measures, then boosts the speed and efficiency of your eye movements, depth perception, recognition, and tracking ability, as well as the reaction time and accuracy of your responses.

PlayAttention measures brain activity through BodyWave technology and present feedback in a video-game format.  It improves concentration with attention-training techniques similar to those developed by NASA and the US Air Force.

Neurotracker by CogniSens

NeuroTracker is a scientific innovation for measuring and improving cognitive performance in sports. Developed by world-leading neurophysicist Dr.Faubert, it trains multiple object tracking skill using a large 3D display and challenges athletes to spread their attention by tracking many targets at high speeds.

The goal of NeuroTracker is to enhance performance by training an athlete to absorb and process complex movement and distribute attentional resources throughout the visual field. Mental focus, sustained concentration, response time and situational awareness are all improved.

ThinQ GolfTHINQ Golf features a suite of mental golf video games designed to improve necessary skills such as awareness, attention, synchronicity, intention, and adaptability to achieve cognitive coherency.

THINQ Golf Games are science-based and built through the extensive research of Dr. Debbie Crews and the THINQ Team.

The THINQ Team has learned through testing with EEG's that THINQ Golf Games can change the brain into a more synchronous, or harmonic state , which is necessary for elite level players.
